What is Journi?
A trip planner for the whole trip. You build a day-by-day itinerary of flights, stays, drives, meals and plans; Journi keeps each time in its place's local time, puts the places on a map, adds the weather as the dates get close, and gives everyone on the trip a Conversation that shows what changed.
Is Journi free?
Yes. Journi is free to use, with no ads and nothing to buy inside it. You sign in with a Google account.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Journi runs in the browser on your phone, tablet or computer. On a phone, add it to your home screen and it opens like any other app.
Can I try it before planning my own trip?
Yes. The first time you sign in, Journi adds a sample trip: a long weekend in Lisbon, already under way, with flights, a hotel, plans for each day, spending and a packing list. Look around, change anything, and delete it when you're ready to plan your own.
Can I use Journi on my own?
Of course. A Journi is yours alone until you invite someone, and everything works the same for one traveller. The Conversation becomes a place for your own notes and moments along the way.
Can Journi help plan a trip before booking anything?
Yes. A Journi can start as just an idea or as a plan you're still working out. Give each part a cost (getting there, where to stay, getting around, food, activities) as an amount, a range, a price you've seen or something already booked, see the total per day and per traveller, and compare other versions of the plan. When you decide to go, the same Journi becomes the trip.
Can Journi keep track of a travel budget and split costs?
Before the trip, a plan holds the estimated cost of each part. During it, note expenses in any currency with who paid and who shares them, and Journi works out who owes what, with refunds tracked until they arrive. It keeps totals per currency and doesn't convert between them.
How do I share a trip, and how do people join?
Create an invite link from the trip's People page and send it however you like. Whoever opens it signs in with Google and joins the same Journi, with the same itinerary. You can turn the link off at any time, and as the organiser you can remove people. You can also add companions by name without inviting them, to split costs with them.
What is the Conversation?
The shared story of the trip. Journi posts what changed (a booking added, a time moved, a hotel cancelled) and who changed it, and anyone on the trip can post, reply, react with an emoji, @mention someone, use @all for everyone, and tag posts with #hashtags. What you haven't seen yet is marked, and anything that mentions you says so.
What happens when plans change or a booking is cancelled?
Edit anything, any time, and the change shows up in the Conversation. Mark a cancelled booking as cancelled rather than deleting it: it stays on the itinerary, clearly marked, and drops off the map and out of what's next. If money is coming back, record the refund as expected, and mark it received when it arrives. Journi doesn't contact the airline or hotel for you.
Does Journi show the weather?
Yes, for the trip's days and for each plan with a place. Within ten days you see the forecast; further ahead, Journi shows what the weather is usually like for your dates, clearly marked as not a forecast. For a drive in the next couple of days it shows the forecast at both ends, and for something outdoors it suggests what to pack. It doesn't report road conditions or traffic.
How do maps and local times work?
Pick a place as you type and Journi remembers where it is. It goes on the trip's map, its times read in that place's own time zone, and a flight across time zones shows both local times and how long it really takes. On the day, a plan can show the place's opening hours, phone number and directions, and Journi can suggest nearby ideas for free time.
Who can see what's in my trip?
You decide. A trip is yours until you invite someone. After that, each item can stay private, be shared with a few people, or be open to everyone on the trip, and the Conversation follows the same rules. Your review is private unless you choose to share it.
Does Journi book flights or hotels?
No. Journi keeps track of what you've already booked and helps you through the trip. It doesn't sell travel, and it isn't a party to your bookings.
Does Journi work offline?
No. Journi needs an internet connection to open your trip and save changes, so it's worth checking the day's plan before you head somewhere without signal.
