What Journi does
Journi is a trip planner you share with the people you're travelling with. Work out a trip before you book it, then keep the itinerary, the costs, the map, the weather and the group's conversation in one place until you're home.
- What it is
- A trip planner and shared travel itinerary.
- Who it's for
- Friends, couples and families planning together; solo travellers; road trippers; anyone crossing time zones.
- Where it runs
- In the browser on phone, tablet and computer.
- What it costs
- Free to use, with no ads.
Plan a trip before you book it
A Journi can start as just an idea or as a plan you're still working out. You can see what the trip might cost, try other versions of it, and decide whether to go before anything is booked.
- The Planning workspace covers getting there, where to stay, getting around, food and activities.
- Give each part a cost: a single amount, a range, a price you've seen somewhere, or something already booked.
- See the total for the trip, per day and per traveller.
- Compare scenarios: an apartment instead of a hotel, the train instead of a flight, each with its own costs, set against the base plan.
- Worth a look points out what's still open, like nights with nowhere to stay.
- Review and decide gathers the whole plan in one place. Make it a Journi, keep planning, or put it away for later.
When a plan becomes the trip, nothing is copied: it's the same Journi, with its people, plans and estimates.
Linked Journis for a longer journey
A long journey can be several Journis linked together, such as a month in Japan with Kyoto, Okinawa and Mount Fuji as parts of it.
- Each linked Journi keeps its own people, itinerary, expenses and Conversation.
- Linking shares nothing between them: people only see the Journis they're on.
A day-by-day itinerary in local time
Flights, stays, drives, trains, dinners, activities and events go on one itinerary, day by day, each time shown in the local time of where it happens.
- Pick a place as you type and it goes on the map with its time zone.
- A flight across time zones shows both local times and how long it really takes.
- A drive shows its distance and driving time.
- Cancel a booking and it stays on the itinerary, marked cancelled, so nobody wonders where it went.
Maps and weather
Every stop is on an interactive map with directions, and the weather follows each day and each plan with a place.
- The forecast arrives within ten days of the date. Further out, Journi shows the typical weather for those dates, labelled as not a forecast.
- For a drive in the next two days, the forecast at both ends, such as rain later in the drive. Not road conditions or traffic.
- When the forecast for something outdoors has rain, sun, wind or cold in it, Journi suggests what to pack.
On the trip
Next up shows what's happening now and what comes next, and which day of the trip it is.
- What to know puts the check-in or departure details, the place's phone number, opening hours and directions in one place.
- With a stretch of free time before the next plan, Journi suggests nearby places that are open and leave time to get there and on to the next thing.
Travel together
Invite people with a link. They sign in with Google and join the same Journi, with the same itinerary.
- Anyone on the Journi can add to it.
- Each item can be for everyone, for some people, or just for you.
- Add companions by name, without inviting them, to split costs with them.
- The organiser can turn the invite link off and remove people.
A Conversation that knows the trip
When someone adds a booking, moves a time or cancels a hotel, Journi posts the change in the Conversation, and everyone on the trip can reply to it.
- Posts, replies and emoji reactions, with @mentions, @all and #hashtags.
- Private items stay private here too: only the people who can see an item see its changes.
- Other people's changes appear when you open Journi or come back to it.
Expenses and costs
Note spending as it happens, in any currency, with who paid and who it's shared between. Journi works out who owes what.
- Record refunds against the expense, marked expected until they arrive.
- Once a plan becomes a trip, its estimates stay beside what was actually spent, each clearly labelled.
- Totals are kept per currency. Journi does not convert between currencies.
Packing, documents and reviews
Packing lists, the tickets and policies you'll need, and a review when you're home, all on the same Journi.
- Packing lists in categories, with suggestions from what past trips taught you.
- Documents: a title, the details, and a link to where each file lives. Journi doesn't store the files themselves.
- After the trip, rate it and note what worked. Keep the review private or share it.
What Journi doesn't do
Journi is a planner and a shared itinerary. It doesn't book or sell travel, and some things people expect from travel apps aren't built.
- No offline use: opening a Journi or saving a change needs a connection.
- No importing bookings from email or files. Bookings are added by hand.
- No notifications by push, email or text.
- No flight status tracking, live location or check-in reminders.
- No currency conversion.
- No app-store app. Journi runs in the browser and can be added to your phone's home screen.
