What Journi keeps about your Journis, what it is used for, who can see it, and how to delete it. Written to be read.
Last updated 1 October 2026
1The short version
- Journi keeps what you put into your Journis so it can show it back to you and to the people you choose to share it with.
- A Journi is yours until you invite someone. After that, you decide what each person on the Journi can see, item by item.
- Your review of a Journi is private unless you choose to share it.
- Your Journis are not sold, rented, or used for advertising. There are no ads in Journi.
- You can delete your Journis, your reviews, and your account.
The rest of this page explains each of those in more detail.
2Who runs Journi
Journi is operated by Nara Digital Services, which is responsible for the information described in this policy. Questions about this policy, a request for a copy of your information, or a request to delete it can be sent to legal@takejourni.com, or through the contact page.
3What Journi keeps when you sign in
Account information
You sign in with your Google account. Journi receives an account identifier, your name, your email address, and your profile photo, and uses them to keep your Journis yours and to show who is on a shared Journi. Journi never sees your Google password.
Your Journis
Everything in a Journi is there because you, or someone on it, added it:
- Journi details: its name, destination, dates, the kind of trip it is, and, if you add them, how many people are travelling
- Itinerary: flights, stays, transport, meals, activities, and appointments, with their dates, times, time zones, places, and notes
- Places: the stops you save, with their names, addresses, and map positions
- Documents: the titles, details, and links you record for tickets, bookings, and other documents. The files themselves stay wherever you keep them
- Packing: your packing lists and what you have packed
- Expenses: amounts, currencies, categories, descriptions, who paid, and who an expense is shared with
- People: the names and roles of the people travelling with you, and the accounts of anyone who joined the Journi
Your sample Journi
When you first sign in, Journi adds a sample Journi to your account so you have something to explore. It is stored like any other Journi, and you can change it or delete it.
The Conversation on a Journi
When something on a Journi changes, Journi records who made the change, what kind of change it was, and a short summary of the item, such as its title or an expense's amount, and shows it in the Journi's Conversation. A change is only shown to people who can see the item it is about.
Journi also keeps what people write there: posts, replies, and emoji reactions, with who wrote them and when, whether they were edited, the people @mentioned, and the #hashtags used. Posts can be read by everyone on the Journi; a reply to a change can only be read by the people who can see that change. Journi keeps which parts of the Conversation you have already seen under your own account, so it never marks anything read for anybody else.
Invite links
When you create an invite link for a Journi, Journi keeps the link and who created it, so it can let people join and so you can turn it off.
Your reviews
When you review a Journi, Journi keeps your rating, your answers, whether you have completed the review, and who you have chosen to share it with.
What Journi learns from your Journis
When you complete a review, the things you wished you had packed, and the things you packed but did not need, are kept as personal packing reminders. Journi uses them to suggest items when you pack for a later Journi.
Your preferences
Your settings, such as your usual currency, your home time zone, and the units you prefer, are kept with your account. Your light or dark theme choice is kept on your device.
Places and weather
When you choose a place from the suggestions, Journi keeps the place you chose, its address, its position on the map, and its time zone, so it can show it on the map, read times in the right local time, and show the weather for your destination.
Your current time zone
Journi reads your device's current time zone so that dates such as “today” and “day 3 of 5” match where you are. It is used on your device to show those dates.
4How your information is used
Your information is used to run Journi for you, which means:
- showing your Journis to you, and the parts you share to people you share them with
- working out what is happening now and what comes next, and showing your stops on a map
- showing the weather for your destination and dates
- showing times in the local time of the places on your Journi
- letting the people on a shared Journi see what has changed
- totalling and splitting expenses
- suggesting packing items based on your earlier Journis and reviews
- keeping Journi working, secure, and free of misuse
Journi does not sell or rent your information, does not show you ads, and does not use your Journis to build an advertising profile.
5What other people can see
Journis
A Journi you create is yours until you invite someone. Anyone who joins through your invite link becomes part of that one Journi, and gets no access to your other Journis. The invite link works like a key, so send it only to the people you mean to travel with. You can turn the link off at any time.
Items on a Journi
Each item on a shared Journi can be open to everyone on it, shared with some of the people on it, or kept to yourself. People on the Journi see the items that are open to them.
Reviews
- Private (the default): only you see your review, and your rating does not count towards the Journi's shared rating.
- Share rating: people on the Journi can see your rating, and it counts towards the Journi's shared rating. Your written answers stay private.
- Share review: people on the Journi can see your rating and your written answers.
You can change this at any time, and changing it back to private stops sharing what you had shared. The packing reminders Journi keeps from your reviews are personal to you and are not shared, whatever you choose for the review itself.
People you add without inviting them
Travel companions you add by name are simply records you typed. They are not accounts, and nobody is contacted when you add one.
6Services that help run Journi
Journi relies on a small number of other companies to work. They handle information on Journi's behalf, under their own terms, and may process it on servers outside your country. None of them are given your information for their own marketing.
- Google Firebase provides sign-in, stores your account and Journis, and serves the Journi website. Like most websites, it records ordinary request information such as your IP address and browser.
- Google Maps Platform suggests places as you type, shows your destination and stops on the map, estimates travel times, looks up a place's opening hours, phone number, and website, and finds nearby ideas for free time. For that it receives the text you type into a place field and the place you choose, your destination and the names and addresses of the stops it places on the map, the start and end of a journey leg when a travel time is requested, the place a plan is at when you open what to know about it, and, for ideas, the map position near where you will be and the places you could go. The map itself may set Google's own cookies.
- Open-Meteo provides the weather: forecasts, and past and typical weather for Journis that have finished or are too far ahead to forecast. It receives the approximate map position (to about a kilometre) of your destination and of plans with a place, and the dates. When Google cannot suggest or locate a place, Open-Meteo is asked instead and receives the text typed into the place field, or your destination's name, and its country.
- Error reporting may be switched on to help fix crashes. When it is, a crash report includes the error, the page you were on, and basic browser information. It is not used to track what you do in Journi.
7Cookies and storage on your device
Journi does not use advertising cookies, analytics, or tracking pixels. It keeps a few things in your browser's storage so it works properly:
- your sign-in session, so you stay signed in
- your light or dark theme choice
- that you have signed in on this device before, and the page to return you to after signing in
- recent weather for your Journis, so it is not fetched again every time you open one
Google's sign-in and map may set their own cookies when you use them. You can clear everything Journi keeps on a device by clearing this site's data in your browser; your Journis stay in your account.
8What Journi does not collect
- Payment details. There is nothing to buy in Journi.
- Your location. Journi never asks for your device's location.
- Your photos, files, contacts, email, or calendar. Journi does not read them or import anything from them.
9Keeping and deleting your information
Your Journis stay in Journi until you delete them. You can delete things yourself at any time:
- An item: delete it from the Journi.
- A review: delete it from the Journi's Review tab. This also removes anything you shared from it, takes your rating out of the Journi's shared rating, and removes the packing reminders that review created.
- A Journi: delete it from the Journi. This deletes its itinerary, places, documents, packing list, expenses, people, and your review of it. Items that other people on the Journi kept private to themselves can only be removed by them; once the Journi is deleted they can no longer be reached from Journi.
- Your account: write to legal@takejourni.com and your account and your Journis will be removed.
Backups kept by Journi's storage provider may hold deleted information for a short time before they expire.
10Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the information held about you, correct it, have it deleted, or object to how it is used. Most of this you can do yourself: everything in Journi is visible and editable, and you can delete it at any time.
For anything you cannot do yourself, including a full copy of your information or deleting your account, write to legal@takejourni.com. Requests are answered within one month, as applicable data protection law requires.
11Children
Journi is not directed at children, and accounts are not knowingly created for anyone under 13. If a child's account has been created, write to legal@takejourni.com and it will be deleted. You can add children as travel companions on a Journi, which does not create an account for them.
12Changes to this policy
As Journi changes, this policy will be updated to match, and the date at the top will change with it. Changes that meaningfully affect information you have already stored will be pointed out in Journi rather than made quietly.
These pages are written to be read rather than to be impressive. If something here is unclear, or does not match what Journi actually does, write to legal@takejourni.com or use the contact page, and it will be put right.
